Toxic chemicals in the marketplace present major health hazards to our communities. Particularly vulnerable are low income communities and communities of color, which experience the heaviest burdens of industry, consumer, and workplace hazards associated with these chemicals. . GreenFaith believes this is unjust, and is continuing its advocacy efforts for a Federal bill to strengthen chemical regulation. The bill, sponsored by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), had been heard by the appropriate committee in 2012, but was not considered by the full Senate before the end of the Congressional term. Therefore, it expired, and has been recently re-introduced by Senator Lautenberg and co-sponsored by Senator Angus King.
We are asking your support in signing our petition, directed to members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which will hear the legislation: https://www.z2systems.com/np/clients/greenfaith/survey.jsp?surveyId=60
Healthy Kids Bill (from Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine and Environmental Health Strategy Center):
A new bill before the Legislature would make sure that Maine takes action to get the worst chemicals out of our products and away from our kids.
