Earth Day Events 2012

Sunday, April 22 after church: The Green Team will be starting seeds for the plant sale coming up on May 20.  Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Cumberland Community Garden.  We welcome all ages to help us plant seeds!

Wednesday, April 26, at 7 pm: Maine Audubon will present a program on “Silent Spring — 50 Years Later.” It is 50 years since Rachel Carson’s book, Silent Spring, was published and alerted the public to the dangers of DDT. The program will begin with excerpts from the film “A Sense of Wonder” about Carson’s life, much of it filmed at her cottage in Southport, ME. Then Ted Koffman, Executive Director of Maine Audubon, will introduce a panel of experts to address science and public policy in Maine today: state epidemiologist Dr. Deborah Rice, Amanda Sears, Cofounder of the Environmental Health Strategy Center, and Rep. Bob Duchesne of the Natural Resources Committee in the Maine legislature. Refreshments will be served. Maine Audubon, 20 Gilsland Farm Rd., off Route One near Route 88, Falmouth. 781-2330.
