Meet Your Farmer Film and Potluck
The Congregational Church in Cumberland
Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 5:00-8:00pm
Film by Cecily Pingree and Jason Mann
Commissioned by Maine Farmland Trust
The Green Team of the Congregational Church in Cumberland is collaborating with Maine Farmland Trust (MFT), a statewide non-profit working to preserve farmland and keep Maine’s farms farming, to screen Meet Your Farmer. A potluck supper featuring local ingredients will take place at 5:30, and local farmers will share stories and recipes. Attendees are encouraged to bring recipes with their potluck dishes.
Meet Your Farmer features 8 short documentaries by Maine filmmakers Cecily Pingree and Jason Mann. They tell the diverse stories of eight Maine farms: from Aroostook to York, from potatoes to dairy, from large commercial operations to small farms that sell directly to local people. Hailed as “moving portraits” and “incredible film work,” the Meet Your Farmer films have traveled to over 60 locations throughout the state, telling the important story of farming in Maine.
Anna Abaldo, event coordinator of Maine Farmland Trust, and a panel of local farmers will be providing additional commentary to the films.
The Congregational Church in Cumberland is in its second of a two-year process to become a Green Sanctuary through the GreenFaith Certification Program, the first interfaith environmental certification program for congregations. Founded in 1992, GreenFaith is an interfaith coalition that inspires, educates, and mobilizes people of diverse religious backgrounds as environmental leaders.
