Welcome to the Cumberland Green Team Home Page

greenfaith banner copyThe Congregational Church in Cumberland UCC has become the first church in Maine to earn GreenFaith Certification, a program that helps turn houses of worship into environmental leaders. GreenFaith participants incorporate their commitment to environmental stewardship into all aspects of their faith communities, including worship services, education, energy conservation, and outreach to the larger community. For more about GreenFaith, see www.greenfaith.org.

On Homecoming Sunday, September 7th, 2014, the church will celebrate this milestone with eco-tours of the building and grounds, a slideshow, a display of the GreenFaith banner, and ice cream on the lawn.  The public is invited.  Worship service starts at 9:30 a.m.

The Green Team of the Congregational Church in Cumberland UCC was formed in 2007 and developed this mission statement:

We want to create a community that helps protect our earth and our health by raising environmental awareness, by taking and encouraging local action, and by engaging in global thinking.

We work to save energy in our church and homes, reduce, reuse, and recycle where we can, and choose non toxics for the health of our bodies and our environment. Through outreach events and worship services, we seek to inspire our church congregation and wider community to be conscious and caring stewards of our earth.  Thank you for your interest in our work.
